Bucky chuckled softly as he closed his eyes, still not wanting to get shampoo in them even though he did like the sight of looking up at his very naked, soaking wet girlfriend. "Believe it or not, I usually like knowing what you're thinking," he told her. He was pretty sure he could figure out what she was thinking on his own most of the time, really. But Steph definitely had moments that made him wonder.

Usually, it was when she was picking fights, though.

But, he decided not to wonder then. Instead, he just enjoyed the feeling of Steph gently washing his hair and rubbing his scalp while he wondered when the last time anyone touched him with such gentleness (outside of when he was in bed with Steph) was.

"I don't deserve you," he said softly after a minute or two. "But I'll be damned if anything tries to separate me from you again."

Sure, she didn't live through all the separations he had with the other Steph, but the point still stood. She was here, she wanted to be with him, and if you asked Bucky? Steph was the only person for him. No matter what point in time she was from.

"I just really like the view," Steph admitted shyly. Fine, she was really into him, okay? And now that they were together and promised no more secrets between them, she didn't have to hide it anymore. He was just going to have to live with that. (Wow, what an awful thing, right?)

She waited until she was finished before responding to what he said next though, coaxing him back to his feet and herding him toward the shower wall so it was his back to it now. She was too tiny and lightweight to do any real pinning, but it was the thought that counted. "You deserve all the love I have for you," she said fiercely, reaching up to cup the sides of his face with both her hands. "But you don't even need to deserve it in the first place. I love you. I choose you. I will always love and choose you."

Bucky just grinned as Steph finished washing his hair, then easily let her back him against the wall once he was on his feet again. It didn't matter that the blonde woman was small and skinny; if she wanted him to move somewhere, he was going to do it.

He brought his hands up to hold Steph's wrists gently as he watched her. "I'm gonna have to hold you to that. You know that, right?" It probably wasn't healthy (but what was healthy in Bucky's mind, really?), but losing Steph would probably destroy him entirely.

Steph drew her hands back and shifted her hold so she could kiss the inside of Bucky's wrists. "To the end of the line, baby," she promised. "You're gonna have to make me leave if you want me outta your hair."

It felt different making that promise now that they weren't only friends. She understood how Cap could've promised that and still leave, and how hers was different. She meant it like a wedding vow, in sickness and in health and all that jazz. They were in this together now.
