"Oh, yes, of course. Go get it and I'll be right here. Not leaving just
yet," he said, giving a bit of a chuckle and a smile. The "just yet" tugged
at his heart a bit, both because he would be leaving these comrades in
general but Rogers in particular. They shared a bond that had been forged
by the test of battle as well as... something else. He couldn't quite be
sure of what it was, too delicate to put a name to it yet but it was
there and he felt it keenly.
Only he wasn't sure if she felt it as well. It was hard to tell at times
because she was so kind and nice to everyone. So much sincerity and warmth
that was a part of who she is that he was afraid to mistake it for
something more.
It didn't take long for Steph to return with a sketchbook the size of a paperback. It wasn't very thick, but its pages were filled with her drawings of Thor. There was some sort of story to most of them, though others were just snapshots of his time with the Avengers. Each one had been drawn with care.
She wasn't in any of the sketches, though. If she was, it was just her back, or the shield, or her hand. She never liked drawing herself. She wasn't very comfortable with photos either, but she sucked up the press appearances and the selfies people on the street sometimes asked of her.
"Here." Her cheeks were noticeably flushed as she held out the sketchbook to him. "Just... a little something. To remember me by." In case he takes a while to return. In case he doesn't return.
